Christine Lyons spent her childhood in Santa Barbara, California, then moved to a Philadelphia suburb. She studied Art and English Literature at Wheaton College in Illinois, then after graduation, took one term at St. Anne’s College, Oxford University, England, in English Literature. An art educator awarded National Board Certification twice, Christine teaches for Palm Beach County Schools and in the outreach program for the Boca Raton Museum of Art School, bringing museum programs to afterschool facilities. Read more She has won national recognition as a garden designer, and has spoken at the Philadelphia Flower Show and presented at several NAEA (National Art Education Association) conventions on the topic of Art and the Garden. She was awarded Scott’s Miracle Gro Classroom teacher of the year, and designed a contest for the US Botanic garden in Washington, DC, for children to draw their state flower. Christine enjoys creating mixed media, drawings, watercolor paintings and jewelry at her home studio in Boca Raton.

This week we will focus on some basics of cartooning and character design, including how to draw animals in different positions to tell a story. We will design a hero with amazing powers to do good things. We will also learn about creating an environment or backdrop for characters to move around in and experiment with stop motion photography of our completed characters. We may even turn ourselves into characters through the magic of photography and illustration combined! You will enjoy adding new drawing skills to what you already enjoy drawing.

Youth Printmaking (Ages 6-7)

During this fun week students will explore many types of printmaking. Will include a look of famous artist and their prints as well as plenty of hands on printing, learning techniques like embossing, etching and reduction printing techniques. Also including time for young minds to explore and create of different surfaces.

The Art of Needle Felting (Ages 10-12)
Location & Summary
Art School: Studio C
Students will learn the techniques of Needle Felting, a textile material that is produced by pressing wool fibers together, while creating two-dimensional works such as landscapes and portraits. Simple embroidery stitches will be incorporated to embellish the two dimensional creations. The class will transition to needle felting three-dimensional realistic or imaginative animal creations. Students will be exposed to the historical and practical uses of felted objects and the artistic creations using felted wool.
Paint Your World (Ages 6-7)

This is the week to enjoy painting with many different materials and creating many different forms, from towns and cities to still life, cars, people, plants and animals and abstract design. We will use watercolor and acrylics, pastels with water and colored pencils that turn into watercolor. Students will experiment with household products, like salt, soap and vegetables, to see how their paintings can take on a unique look and texture. Artist inspirations include Monet, Hopper, Frank Stella, Beatrix Potter
